About Pam Jones

Pam was born and raised London. She feels very blessed to have started her Yoga journey with some incredible teachers including Stewart Gilchrist and Cat Alip-Douglas in the UK. Having been trained as a dancer in her early years, she loved the physicality of yoga but soon realized there was so much more.

On a fortuitous day in 2007 she walked into a small studio in New York City and found her Guru Sri Dharma Mittra. A few months later she moved to NYC to study with him and has never looked back. She believes that all can practice yoga and by constant practice one will develop not only a strong and flexible body but more importantly an inner kind of strength and flexibility of mind. Through the practice one can eventually settle the mind and realize our Divine essence within

She teaches daily at the Dharma yoga Center in NYC whilst serving as a mentor for the ‘Life of a Yogi' Teacher trainings. She hopes to inspire others to keep practicing so that they can reach their fullest potential and to keep spreading kindness everywhere.

MY JOURNEY TO NEW YORK

"In 2007 I was completing an MA in fashion design at the Royal College of Art in London and I started taking yoga classes to help me find some peace in the fashion world!  My yoga teacher at the time asked me whether I knew who Dharma Mittra was and told me that one day I should go to New York to meet him. In that December my sister and I flew to New York to meet Dharma. We had never been to New York before so this was a real adventure.  I remember there was a sign on the staircase as we entered that said ‘Welcome Home’.  We could hear this lovely chanting music playing and as we opened the door we saw all these yogis quietly warming up on this pink fluffy carpet.  It was really surreal, as if we had found an oasis in the middle of this city, a secret place in the middle of the concrete jungle.

Now looking back, I think we were quite courageous to take a 'Master' class since we were really just beginners. At the time Dharmaji would cue a forearm stand after every downward dog. That's a lot of forearm stands for a beginner! There were puddles of sweat on my mat and as I glanced over at my sister she gave me a look as if to say, I'm gonna kill you later!  At one point it got quite embarrassing as we both kept falling, almost taking down the yogis next to us. Even though it was such a physically torturous class at the time, there was also a feeling of deep peace, humility, kindness and devotion that I had never experienced before. I couldn't help but come come back every day for the rest of the week.  When I met Dharmaji I knew I had found something special, a real Master and a spiritual family."

I am infinitely grateful to my spiritual father, Sri Dharma Mittra for his eternal love and compassion, for his humility and generosity in sharing the spiritual knowledge. He is the blazing light that has guided me back to my true Self. I offer my deepest Thanks to Dr Naina Marballi and Dr Vasant Lad for sharing their life and love of Ayurveda. Geshe Michael Roach for his profound Buddhist teachings and all the Yogis and Yoginis who have inspired me and kept me on the path.
